Kenny and I had planned to go to San Francisco to celebrate our 1 year wedding anniversary. I was thrilled when the Asian Art Museum, the very place where we got married, offered us free tickets for our anniversary. Kenny came to me a few days beforehand and the conversation went something like this.
Kenny: Can we go to a Stanford game on our anniverary?
Me: Is there a tailgate?!
Kenny: Yeah, there is!
Me: Ok, let’s go!
Kenny: *cheshire cat grin*
So we drove up on Friday night to San Francisco. On Saturday morning we traveled to the Asian Art Museum and had a blast viewing the galleries and reminiscing about our wedding day. We saw the Shanghai Exhibit (sorry, there were no pics allowed). It was interesting. I liked seeing some of the clothing and some of the posters from the Cultural Revolution in China. Then Kenny and I hit the Stanford game, complete with a tailgate party. Of course, we were decked out in Stanford gear. (I went to UC San Diego and used to cheer for UCLA and Cal. However, when Kenny and I started dating and he took me to a Stanford game, he informed me that any girl of his needed to root for Stanford.) We hit Tokyo Go Go for dinner. The sushi was actually really good and fairly avante garde. We weren’t feeling like clubbing so we met up with Carol, Lucas, Mimi, Chad, and Gaurav and winded up the night at a divey bar called Kilowatt. On Sunday we hit Tangerine with my brother-in-law, his fiancee, Mary, Carol, Lucas, and Mimi. We hung out with my sister and took a walk by the Ferry building. I really like the SOMA area. We took a walk around Union Square and I bought some things at Fresh (I love their makeup and soy face products) and Paul Frank. Then we winded up the night at Spruce. Please see my review below. It was definitely one of the best restaurants I have been to in SF! (I’d give it 4 stars) On Sunday we met up with Cathy and Duc at Buggaloos for brunch (probably 3 stars)and then drove home.
I can’t believe that Kenny and I have been married for a year. It really seems like only yesterday when we were planning for our wedding and I was stressing because I had no idea how many people were going to actually accept the invitation. I would definitely say we have a good marriage because we have more happy days than sad and we communicate more than we fight. At the end of the year I can say that I’ve learned 2 main things:
1. Communication and compromise are key to any marriage.
2. Your spouse should be your best friend. You should always keep your best friend in mind and be in sync with their needs.
I can’t pretend that I know everything there is to know about marriage or love. But I can tell you this. Choosing the right partner has made me very happy and helps me to feel more secure. There is a great security in knowing that if the world attacks or anything goes wrong that Kenny is by my side, loving me, cooking for me, and just talking me through it. Even on my worst days, I know that at the end of the day, Kenny will be there no matter what happens. I know that if I’ve had a bad meeting that I can go home to Kenny and somehow, things are better the minute I see him at home =)
