It’s hard to believe we’re already on our 3rd week home. Our daughter Roxy is doing wonderfully and has just slid into our life in Elk Grove. We feel so blessed because she’s just such a happy and loving little girl. She doles out hugs and kisses and really has bonded with both me and Kenny. We’re working on getting her into a normal routine. She’s going to bed around 10 pm and waking up around 11am now. I’d like to get her to bed earlier so we’ll be working on that. She eats like a horse and has developed a taste for tater tots, blueberries, and goldfish crackers. She also loves meat.
In the past week Roxy has been to 2 birthday parties, one for my godniece Isabella (who turned 7) and one for my friend’s son Bronston (who turned 1). Roxy did great at both parties and loved playing with the other children and interacting with other people. She is really even more social than me and Kenny after she warms up to you. We also had her first doctor’s visit. Dr. Katz was great. He actually works in the same office as my husband Kenny. They are on the same floor so it was so nice that Kenny could go to the appointment with me. We visited Baba’s office for the first time and I’d say Roxy was a hit. Roxy was not a fan of the doctor’s office but she had to have 4 shots and have 7 vials of blood drawn so she was understandably upset. It broke my heart to hear her screaming Mama and knowing that I couldn’t stop her pain. She was a little cranky and feverish that night but we still made it to my Mom’s group the next day.
I’m a member of several fellowships/groups. I have been a part of JOY women’s fellowship of River Ridge Neighborhood Church for awhile. They are all young married women and most of them are young Moms like me. I really rely on this group. I attend a Mom’s group twice a month also branched out of River Ridge Neighborhood Church. This group is nice because you can bring your kids. Roxy loved eating and playing with the other kids today. And right before we went to China I found a great Christian adoptive Mom’s group called Bloom in Elk Grove where we live. Since all the mothers in the group have adopted, this group has been a great source of support and strength.
We got some good news this week. My cousin Jessica (who is like a little sister to me) got engaged and asked me to be her Matron of Honor. Jessie was my Maid of Honor (along with my sister Ali) so it means a lot to me. I’m so happy for her. Jessie is 9 years younger but that age difference has never mattered. She’s so mature for her age and we’ve always been close. Since Uncle Kevin (Jessie’s father) passed away about 11 years ago and I promised him I’d always be there for Jessie, she has a special place in my heart. I can’t wait for her to meet Roxy and I can’t wait to celebrate her engagement and marriage with her.
We’re so grateful that so many good things are happening to us. People have been really kind. Some good friends have been dropping to meet Roxy and also bringing food. I haven’t really tried cooking yet with Roxy home so the food deliveries are very much appreciated. I’ve only made gai jook (chicken congee). You can find it in my recipes section. This weekend is a 3 day weekend and we are celebrating Valentine’s Day and my birthday by going with our good friends the Yamauchis and the Cams to a cabin in Tahoe. We all go to the same church and have been good friends for years. Angeline and Sharon are 2 of my closest friends and our kids are all around the same age so it will be fun to stay in Bryan’s parents cabin in Kirkwood and play in the snow with our friends and all the kids. Roxy has never seen snow before so I can’t wait to put her in a snowsuit and romp in the snow with her. I can’t believe all that has happened in the past month. I’m turning 34 and Kenny and I have a beautiful daughter. I really couldn’t ask for anything more.
