Bacon and banana pancakes with peanut butter mascarpone
I walked in this place and thought, “Wow, this used to be Club 21!” I used to hand out flyers for Club 21 events so going to Bacon and Butter was interesting. The food is good. The place is cute. The service is reasonable. However, the bathrooms really need some work.
We ordered the bacon and banana pancakes with peanut butter mascarpone and the grilled cheese benedict with challah bread, 4 cheeses, bacon, poached eggs, and bacon hollandaise. The banana and bacon pancakes were fluffy and good. But I would have liked some fresh banana on the top of them. The grilled cheese benedict was phenomenal. It was savory and you could taste the cheesy goodness in every bite. We even asked for the poached eggs to be well poached rather than runny and they poached the eggs perfectly. Spot on. The fruit that was served with the benedict was awesome. It came with blood oranges, oranges, grapefruit, pears, and kiwi. I highly recommend getting the grilled cheese benedict and getting the fruit rather than the potatoes. I will be getting the grilled cheese benedict again for sure.
There is one thing that really bothered me that I feel the need to point out. I got stuck in the bathroom! The top sliding latch wouldn’t move and I had to call my friend on my cell phone and get her to get an employee to get me out. After the guy kicked in the door, I walked out and the whole restaurant was staring at me and I felt like a prize idiot. So if you use the restroom, just don’t use the top latch. Actually, I think they took the top latch off the door after I got stuck so you’re probably fine. Use the button on the handle to lock it and bring your cell in case you need to call for help! That’s good advice! The bathroom really needs some work and fixing. I think they need to paint the bathrooms a bit better (I saw graffiti on the walls and mirror) and take out the rusty armoire thing in the 1st bathroom.
I am going to be nice and rate Bacon and Butter on the food and service and not on the fact that I got stuck in the bathroom! They were really busy so we had to flag them a few times when we needed things. But I am understanding of the fact that we came on a busy Saturday morning. I mean, we did have to wait about 20 minutes for a table and every table was filled. So again, expect reasonable, if not overly attentive service. I read the other reviews but I have to say that the guy at the front greeted me very courteously when I was putting my name on the wait list and that the waitress did make an effort to provide good service.
Overall, this is a solid place for brunch. Do come here if you like bacon and if you’re not in a rush. Do not come here if you’re vegetarian or if you’re not prepared to wait for a table.
