I just had the opportunity to check out Cryo Me Cryotherapy in Elk Grove and I completely love it!
About Cryo Me
Cryo Me opened it’s doors on June 5. It’s a company focused on relaxation, well-being, pain relief, and recovery through the use of subzero temperatures or cryotherapy. Essentially, cryotherapy is the therapeutic use of cold. Cryo Me offers different services including Whole Body Cryotherapy, Body Compressions, Localized Cryo and Medical Massage, an Oxygen Chamber, and an Infrared Sauna. It’s owned by Shane Carter and Scott Nelson.
Services Offered
Whole Body Cryo Therapy
With Whole Body Cryo Therapy you stand in a cryo chamber while your whole body is immersed in subzero temperature. * “The extreme cold stimulates skin sensors and releases endorphins while enhancing blood circulation to decrease inflammation. The increased circulation clears toxins with a fresh supply of oxygen & nutrient-rich blood. This stimulates cellular regeneration in order to promote recovery.”
There are 3 steps to this pain relieving, well-being promoting method.
Body Compression
You are fitting with devices that apply compressions to different parts of your body. This promotes blood circulation which will clear toxins and decrease inflammation. * “Body compressions help the body recover faster between workouts by reducing muscle soreness and improving circulation.”
Localized Cryo & Medical Massage
* “The therapist will use medical message techniques and apply subzero temperatures as needed. This will reduce pain and inflammation in a given area to promote recovery. This service is good for a specific area of injury or soreness.”
Oxygen Chamber
** “Cryo Me uses a Mild-Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (mHBOT) which is a safe, low pressure pod. They offer 60 minute Oxygen Chamber sessions at 1.3 times the normal atmospheric pressure.” This allows blood to absorb 50% more oxygen than normal. The blood (plasma) can then transfer that higher oxygen content to injured organs and tissue to promote and speed recovery. Oxygen Chambers have also been used for stress reduction and to improve cognitive function.”
“Many athletes use Oxygen Chambers for athletic advantage pre and post competition. More oxygen to the tissues equals better performance! Oxygen Chambers are also used to decrease recovery time from training, thus helping to prevent chronic over-training injuries.”
Infrared Sauna
** “Infrared Saunas run upwards of 90°F. This dry heat stimulates blood flow by increasing the heart rate and widening blood vessels. The increased circulation brings oxygen to sore muscles and joints that use it to repair tissues.”
Infrared Saunas are also good for detoxification, weight management, to lower blood pressure, to purify skin, and to improve blood circulation. Studies have shown continuous low level heat is useful for treatment upper and lower back pain. Furthermore, an Infrared Sauna session can burn 200-600 calories. A clinical study by the University of Missouri Kansas City in 2005 showed that Sunlighten’s Solocarbon heaters were ** “shown to lower blood pressure from a 30 minute sauna session three times a week.” Infrared Sauna treatments have been shown to help with acne, eczema, and psoriasis. It also helps with the evacuation of edema, or the abnormal collection of fluids within tissues of the body.

Cryo Contouring
With this procedure a Cryo T Shock machine is used. Typically a Cryo Contouring lasts betweenn 30-45 minutes. It is meant to improve circulation, reduces cellulite, enact cryolyposis (kills fat cells). There is no scarring and it is not invasive.
Cryo Facial Massage
With a Cryo Facial Massage, a Cryo T Shock machine is used to massage the face. This effect is meant to stimulate collagen, reduce wrinkles, and age spots, and imperfections. It improves acne, psoriasis, eczema, and other skin related issues. 20-30 minutes.

What We Experienced
Elk Grove Tribune’s Managing Editor, Mia Lam and I decided to do Cryo Me’s 1st Time Bundle of Whole Body Cryotherapy, Body Compressions, and Localized Cryo & Medical Massage. Throughout the whole time, the owner Shane Carter stayed with us and administered our services. He exited the room before each Whole Body Cryo Session to give us privacy and allow us to undress before we go into the chamber. At no time did I feel uncomfortable. Shane remained friendly and professional throughout our experience.
I had Mia go into the Cryo Chamber first because I was rather nervous. She has a higher tolerance for cold than I do and stayed close to the total 3 minutes. Then it was my turn. I undressed, keeping on my undergarments and a sports bra, and putting on the gloves and socks and slippers provided for me. I stood on lifts meant to make me higher in the chamber so I could see, and then waited for Shane and Mia to come in. The cold air blew in and it actually wasn’t wet air like I thought it was going to be. It was actually dry air. My tolerance for cold, unfortunately, wasn’t as high as Mia’s, so I cut my session at the 1 minute 45 mark. Afterwards, Mia had to help me out because my legs were like jelly.
Both Mia and I experienced an almost euphoric feeling of relaxation and calm immediately after our Whole Body Cryotherapy session. I felt almost sleepy and this feeling of relaxation stayed with me the rest of the day. In future sessions, I hope to build my tolerance so I can inside the chamber a longer period of time.
Afterwards, Mia and I sat in the comfy Body Compression chairs and we were fitted with leg compression devices. We enjoyed Body Compressions for 15 minutes. The leg compressions weren’t too hard or too soft. The pressure was just right. It vaguely reminded me of those Japanese massage chairs with the leg massage. The leg compressions are like heaven for me. I believe if you wanted to do compressions on another part of your body like your arms that they could do this as well. I should also note that there were phone chargers so we were able to charge our cell phones.
Finally, Shane worked on each of us with Localized Cryo & Medical Massage. I was open with Shane about my medical issues and informed him that a hard pressure back massage would likely cause me pain or bruising. He listened and carefully customized a light massage, complete with a cold localized cryo treatment on the part of my back experiencing pain. It was wonderful. The cold felt so good on my back.
After all of my treatments, the relaxed and euphoric feeling stayed with me the rest of the day. I also noticed that after my treatment, the whole rest of the day and the next day, I did not experience any back pain. Therefore, I conclude that that cryotherapy really does help to alleviate pain and fulfills everything that it promises to do.
Conclusion
I really want to commend Shane for his professionalism and for the way he carefully answered all our questions and made both Mia and I feel comfortable. Consequently, I am happy with my experience at Cryo Me and I have no reservations whatsoever about recommending Cryo Me, any of their services, or their awesome staff. I will be back soon and I can’t wait to do the Whole Body Cryotheraopy, Body Compressions, and Localized Cryo & Medical Massage again. I would also love to try the Oxygen Chamber and the Infrared Sauna. JAX APPROVED! If you check out Cryo Me, tell them Jax sent you!
