Dinner for Schmucks
I loved this movie! It’s basically one of those movies that is so stupid that its funny. This one is definitely a bromance type movie. Tim is a mid-level executive trying to move up and impress his boss. He gets the attention of upper management at a meeting and is invited to a dinner where he must seek out and bring an eccentric person with an extraordinary talent. In reality, the execs treat this as a dinner for idiots and just want to make fun of the people they bring. Tim’s girlfriend Julie, whom he keeps trying to propose to, doesn’t want him to attend. The next day Tim hits Barry with his car when Barry tries to save an already dead mouse. Barry works for the IRS and reveals that he likes to stuff dead mice and put them into elaborate dioramas. Tim invites Barry to the dinner. Barry is confused and shows up at Tim’s apartment on the wrong night and this results in a variety of excruciating and very funny escapades. Julie, Tim’s girlfriend, is mistakenly led to believe that Tim has hooked up with another girl. The alleged dinner for schmucks happens with Barry “winning” the championship prize. Barry finally clues Tim into the fact that the original purpose was to invite people to dinner to make fun of them. In the end Tim realizes that he’s not the type of person who goes around making fun of people just to get ahead in his job and tells off his boss. He also realizes that Julie would never marry a man who did such a cruel thing. The ending is happy, if a little bit predictable.
I had plenty of doubts about this movie but I’m glad that I watched it. I would recommend Dinner for Schmucks to anybody in need of a good laugh. Be prepared to laugh until you pee!
