I have been wanting to check out Hawk’s off of Alhambra forever but until recently, I never really had the opportunity to go. My husband works near here and goes here frequently. I happened to be in Midtown for an appointment and I randomly went to lunch with my husband here. I loved it. The food was great. The place had a trendy urban vibe that was very welcoming. The customer service was spectacular.
I should start by telling you that there are two sides to Hawk’s. Hawk’s Public House is the restaurant part. Hawk’s Provisions has coffee, sandwiches, and more of a grab and go type atmosphere. I’ve been to the Hawk’s Provisions and can say the Fried Chicken Sandwich is spectacular. Hawk’s Provisions is great if you want to just pick it up and head elsewhere. The quality of the Hawk’s Provisions is just as good as Hawk’s Public House. But you aren’t sitting down in a restaurant being catered to.
The Food
After sitting down in Hawk’s Public House, we ordered the Curry Deviled Eggs as an appetizer, along with the Public House Burger with Wagyu beef, and the Public House Lunch which consisted of a Meatball Sandwich, pea soup, and a sweet treat. The Curry Deviled Eggs were served with pickled mustard seed and crispy shallots. I don’t even usually like curry unless it’s my Mom’s curry. But this curry flavor was good. The mustard seeds also added flavor and I liked the way the crispy shallots gave me something to bite into. It was a nice balance of flavors and textures.
My husband got the Public House Burger with Wagyu beef, on a brioche bun, with French fries, aioli, and dill pickles. I had a few bites of the burger and it was very good. The Wagyu beef was juicy and cooked just right. I would say it was a solidly satisfying burger. Since my husband polished it and there was none to take home, I would say he enjoyed it.
I’m not usually a meatball person but our server Zeph assured me that I wouldn’t regret ordering it. He was absolutely right and I will certainly order it again in the future. The Petite Meatball Sandwich was served on nicely toasted bread, with pea soup, and a sweet treat that consisted of a homemade version of a Reese’s peanut butter cup. I liked the meaty and saucy flavor of the Meatball Sandwich and the way it was complimented by the freshly toasted bread. The pea soup was creamy and flavorful and went well with the Meatball Sandwich. The sweet treat that tasted like a Reese’s peanut butter cup was rich and sweet.
The Customer Service
You can’t go to Hawk’s without noticing the service, which was amazing. Everytime either me or my husband got up, someone would come fold our napkins. When my husband ordered a beer, they brought the bottle with it, and as he drank it, they kept pouring the beer into the glass for him. I knocked a spoon onto the floor and I was brought another spoon without even needing to ask. It honestly takes a lot to impress me when it comes to customer service. The customer service at Hawk’s is impeccable and so is their attention to detail.
Jax Approved
I barely hang out in Midtown anymore but I promised my husband that I’ll come back with him for lunch or dinner very soon. I’d like to give a shoutout to Zeph and I’d like to thank the staff of Hawk’s for making my first time dining there a very pleasant experience. I really can’t wait to go back and try their dinner and brunch menus. Totally give this place a try and bring someone who isn’t afraid to try new foods. Hawk’s Provisions & Public House has excellent food, a great trendy atmosphere, and superb customer service. Jax approved!
