It seems like hot chocolate bombs have been all the rage lately, so naturally, I had to give them a try. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that they are fairly easy! So not only are they delicious, but they are totally doable (Which is great for a busy mon like me). They were a hit in my family and a great way to bond. So please enjoy this recipe, I hope it works it’s way into your family’s home!
Ingredients
1 cup of chocolate chips (you can use any kind although we used semi-sweet)
2 TBSP of cocoa
2 TBSP of sugar
Toppings of your choice (peppermint sticks, marshmallows, chocolate chips, etc.)
a chocolate mold
1 culinary paintbrush
gold sprinkles (Or any color that you feel symbolizes New Years)
Step 1: Pour your chocolate chips into a microwave-safe bowl
Step 2: Microwave the chocolate for 30 seconds, then stir, continue to microwave with 15-second intervals
Step 3: Use a spoon and place one spoonful of melted chocolate into each mold
Step 4: Use your culinary paintbrush to spread the chocolate all around the mold until it is completely covered
Step 5: Once each mold is covered in chocolate, place in the freezer for 5 minutes (Please don’t guess whether it’s been 5 minutes, use your clock)
Step 6: once your chocolate has hardened, gently and carefully peel the chocolate out of the mold (this will be the hardest part)
Step 7: While you’re letting your shells rest, you can make your own hot chocolate powder. Simply mix the cocoa powder and sugar together in a small bowl. That’s it! Super simple.
Step 8: Now it’s time to assemble! If you go slowly, this will be easy! So take your time and don’t panic. Fill one side of your shell with your cocoa powder and toppings
Step 9: Take the edge of your empty shell and spread some melted chocolate on the top of the rim (I used my fingers), then place the shell on top of the filled shell. Quickly pick up your bomb and spread a coat of chocolate around the rim to connect the two shells together.
Step 10: Place your sprinkles on a plate and roll your bomb’s chocolate “belt” around until it is coated enough
Step 11: Place the bomb into warm milk or hot water, and stir until dissolved. Have fun with these, I know we did!
