My husband and I have always liked Kru and we were really excited to be able to come and try the new East Sac location for a date night for my birthday. We made reservations and were well taken care of from the moment we arrived.
I think my favorite thing that we ordered by far was the Grilled Albacore with Shaved Truffles. It was soooo good! You either like truffles or you don’t. I personally LOVE them and I love putting truffles on anything. So this dish really rocked my world. I think my second favorite thing that we ordered was the Poke Trio. The Poke Trio has Tako (Octopus), Maguro (Tuna), and Hamachi (Red Fin), with Green Tea Salt, Nori Salt, and Shichimi Salt. Our server recommended the Otoro and so we went for that and the Unagi. Both were excellent. The Otoro had a nice clean flavor and you could tell that it the tuna was very, very fresh. I’ve honestly never seen Otoro like that! My husband said that it was his favorite and I think it was one of mine as well. The Sunshine Roll was awesome. It consisted of a fully loaded roll with Shrimp Tempura, Spicy Tuna, Green Apple, Lemon, Topped With Avocado, Escolar, Arare, Micro Cilantro, Fried Leeks, Spicy Garlic Sauce, and Sweet Chili. It was flavorful with crispy little bits on top from the fried leeks and it was very tasty and satisfying. We couldn’t even finish it because it was so big. The Sake Steamed Mussels with Sake and Dashi Broth and Grilled Bread were awesome. The grilled bread was perfect because I really needed something crunchy to bite into after biting into the squishy mussel. The bread was perfect for sopping up the yummy broth. The Hotate Scallop was also excellent.
The customer service at Kru was excellent. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly. We noted that when we arrived they checked us right in and got us settled. The bathrooms are individual co-ed stalls and there is a common sink area that is nicely done. The decor is modern and contemporary with a trendy vibe. Overall, my husband and I had a really pleasant date night and really enjoyed our food and experience. We will definitely be back to Kru soon. I don’t have any reservations whatsoever about recommending Kru. Jax approved!
