Mama’s Fish House is awesome. The food is mouth-watering, the view is fantastic, and the service is impeccable. My husband and I were just so happy to be eating there.
To start off with we had Papa’s Three Fish Sashimi. It’s basically Opakapaka with coconut-chili and Molokai pink sea salt, Salmon with pineapple-pomegranate and Hawaii Island black sea salt, Ahi with star anise-daikon and kukui nut salt. It was fabulous. The light salt set off the taste of the fish perfectly. They also served us a delicious amuse bouche of a shot of tomato ginger bisque. I really want to learn how to make it.
For our main courses we had the Mama’s Lobster-Mahimahi Stuffed with lobster & crab and baked in a macadamia nut crust and the Opakapaka – Pink Snapper caught in deep reefs near Kaho’olawe Island by Karl Wenger Mama’s Sauté – in garlic butter, white wine and capers. Hands down, the Mahimahi was our favorite dish. The macadamia nut crust gave the fish this awesome crispiness. It was perfectly flavored and the lobster was so succulent. The snapper was awesome as well. It was a little buttery and we just killed both dishes. I also had a very nice drink called a mango colada. It’s like pina colada but with mangoes.
Some tips:
1) Make a reservation like a month before you want to go to Mama’s Fish House. No, I’m not joking. They are really popular and they get really full.
2) When you reserve, tell them its a special occasion and ask for a table by the window so you can watch the sunset.
3) Order the Mahimahi with the macadamia nut crust!
4) Do not come here if you’re pinching pennies.
I was totally in my happy place after I went here. Mama’s Fish House is a wonderful restaurant to go to in Maui. I plan on coming back here every single time I’m in Maui in the future. Yum!
