My husband and I are from California and this is the only place we ate at during our day in Lexington. It was highly recommended by several locals.
We had the fried catfish with creamed corn, carrots, and mashed potatoes and the chicken and dumplings with corn oysters (it’s like a corn fritter), cornbread, creamed corn, and kale. The catfish was tasty and not greasy at all. I really liked the chicken and dumplings. It was like yummy chicken noodle soup. The creamed corn was swimming in butter but it was oh so good! I really liked the kale as well. This was the first time I had a corn oyster and it was really good. I’m not sure if its usually meant to be a flat cake or not. But I loved the fact that it was a little crispy on the outside. The mashed potatoes and carrots were fine but didn’t have me jumping out of my seat. The cornbread was so-so. I think they could probably do a better job with the cornbread.
The portions were huge and the service was pretty decent. They accidentally brought out a cup instead of a bowl of chicken and dumplings but the waitress noticed and changed it out immediately. My mother-in-law had a pineapple upside down cake drink and she polished both!
Overall, my family had a very positive experience at Ramsey’s. If I ever come back to Lexington, I’ll be sure to hit it up again.
