Republic Bar & Grill – Sacramento, California – Solid Food But Wayyyy Too Loud!!
Chicken and Waffle Sandwich
I’ve been wanting to check out Republic for awhile. I went here with some friends for a birthday.
I liked what they’ve done with this place since it was Dream. They really seem to have maximized the space. Straight up, the food was solid. I had the chicken and waffles sandwich. It was served with spicy maple syrup (yes, it had a kick to it). I liked it, although it was a little greasy. My husband had a burger with bleu cheese and bacon and he polished it. They had a really good beer selection. I remember being happy when I tasted this Racer 5 India Pale Ale.
They have a basketball game and pool tables on one side and there is a lot of space compared to most bars. This isn’t a dive bar. There is a good mix of people and there is a lot to see and do.
There are 3 things I didn’t like about Republic. It was wayyyyy too loud. They have the music going full blast to the point where you have to shout to be heard. It was so loud and I was shouting to my friends so much that by the time I left my throat hurt. Also, the servers have this problem of taking away the drinks before they are finished. This happened a few times at our table and I got annoyed. If you’re the owner reading this, just turn down the music a bit and tell your servers to ask people before you take away their drinks!! Finally, the doors are open so the smoke from people smoking drifts inside. I hate getting the smell of cigarette smoke in my hair! My hair reeked when I got home so I had to wash it.
So to be fair, this would have been a 4 star review but I am removing 1 star because of my hoarse throat , my annoyance that I got 2 drinks taken away before I was finished, and the fact that my hair smelled like smoke when I left.
I would say totally check this place out. Just don’t come here if you can’t stand loud noise and make sure you hold onto your drinks and don’t let the servers take them away before you’re done! Also, position yourself so that the smoke won’t come straight at you.
