Sacto Mofo Food Truck Mania at Morse Park – Elk Grove, CA – Awesome Food, Short Lines, & Good Times!
It’s been quite awhile since we’ve been to a Sacto Mofo event (definitely pre-adoption). While I’m a total foodie, I’m not big on waiting in lines. But when I heard Sacto Mofo Food Truck Mania was coming to Morse Park in Elk Grove, I had to rally my family and some of our friends to go. Morse Park happens to be one of our favorite parks in Elk Grove. It has awesome playground equipment and bathrooms.
We set up in the shade of large tree and laid out a bunch of supplies: a huge umbrella/half tent thing, a picnic blanket, a cooler with ice and drinks, paper towels, wipes, sunblock, bug spray, skateboards, Plasmacars, a mini football, a mini soccer ball. While the kids played, we took turns going to wait in the lines for food. To my pleasant surprise, the lines weren’t that bad. I waited maybe 10 to 15 minutes in each line. The last time I went to Sacto Mofo in Midtown the lines were an hour long so this was a vast improvement.
I ate way too many things to name and honestly don’t know the names of some things I ate. However, I’m going to list some of my favorites. I enjoyed the Piggy Fries from Bacon Mania. They had so much stuff on them, it was like you were eating a California burrito but without the tortilla. Since I lived in San Diego for 6 years (I went to UCSD) and San Diego has awesome Mexican food, and I grew up with Mexican godparents, I am a harsh critic of Mexican food. (Ok, I’m a harsh food critic period. But that’s besides the point.) Both the Fish Tacos and the Carne Asada Tacos from Chando’s Tacos were excellent. I really liked the green sauce that came on the Carne Asada Tacos. The Sriracha Hoisin Sandwich from Bacon Mania was tasty and it was slightly sweet. I didn’t think it was hot at all. The Butter Pecan Ice Cream Chocolate Chip Cookie Sandwich from The Sweet Spot was enormous. I appreciated that they used Gunther’s Ice Cream. I can tell the difference between a lot of local ice creams. All the shaved ice from Local Kine was good, but not quite as good as Ululani’s in Maui. It was enough though, to remind me Maui.
We had an awesome chill time at Sacto Mofo Food Truck Mania at Morse Park and it was really nice when it cooled down slightly in the evening. I highly recommend arriving about an hour early so you can pick a good spot and set up. Sacto Mofo in Elk Grove is really a lot less hectic and more enjoyable than the ones I have gone to in Midtown Sac. It’s great for families and perhaps most importantly, there’s something to do and something to eat for everyone. I’m definitely planning on hitting Sacto Mofo when it’s at Morse Park again sometime this year.
