My husband and I went here with some friends. We had the wagyu kobe beef shabu with spicy miso broth. It came with cabbage, enoki mushrooms, mushrooms, and a bit of udon and rice. We also ordered scallops a la carte.
I liked the kobe beef shabu. I also liked the miso broth and appreciated the fact that they had a dish of chopped daikon, green onions, and garlic that you could add to the boiling broth or to your bowl. I liked the ponzu and sesame dipping sauces that were provided. The ice cream was pretty good, although I will say that the taro ice cream tasted like caramel. It was still tasty nonetheless.
I was disappointed with the amount of kobe beef, scallops, veggies, mushrooms, and udon that came with the meal. In fact (and you can ask my husband and friends) I ordered 2 orders of extra udon and 1 extra of kobe beef! I have seen larger portions at other shabu places. I also felt like the service could have been a bit more attentive. The service wasn’t terrible but I did feel like I really had to try hard to get the attention of our waitress. The portions and the service are the primary reason I am rating this place 3 stars. If the portions were larger or if the service was stellar, this would have been a 4 star review.
My favorite shabu place is still Koji’s down in OC. That being said, I can honestly say that I enjoyed my meal at Shabu. I will likely give it another shot sometime in the future.
**If you are the owner reading this please give more meat, udon and veggies! The amount I was given was pretty shiesty compared to other places!**
