Shoki II is better than the original Shoki, although it is a bit harder to find. My husband had a bad experience at the other Shoki so we never went back. Shoki II has ramen that is just as good as the other Shoki but with much more space in the dining area and much better customer service.
So I should explain that my husband REFUSED to go back to the original Shoki over a year and a half ago because there was an incident where he was meeting his friends, he came a bit late, and they refused to let him sit at the same table as his friends. They made him sit BY HIMSELF at a table and he was so angry about it that we never went back. He had just come off a long day at work and he was incredibly angry at the way he was treated. (We gave the original Shoki a negative 1 star review over a year ago.)
Today I went to Shoki II with a friend and had a good experience. We both ordered the tan tan men with a boiled egg and it was delicious and just the way I remembered. The broth is very flavorful and it is really good when you add a scoop of garlic. I got the whole wheat noodles just to try them and liked them a lot. I noticed that there are plenty of vegetarian and vegan options.
I made a point of asking about their seating policies because I want to bring my husband to Shoki II but I know he won’t go if the seating policies are the same. The owner’s daughter came out and talked to me for awhile. She made a point of answering my difficult questions and carefully apologized for what happened to my husband. She said very clearly that there was no policy at Shoki II that says that people who arrive later must sit at another table. She assured me that if I brought my husband to Shoki II that she would do everything possible to make sure that there were no issues. She asked me to apologize to my husband for what happened.
I actually talked to my husband and I think he’s going to give Shoki II a shot so stay tuned. For everyone that knows us, this is HUGE, because we were really boycotting Shoki for over a year and everyone who hangs out with us knows it.
I’m going to give credit to the owner’s daughter for actually taking the time to talk to me. I really appreciate what she said and I also appreciate the fact that all the servers today were very attentive. If there is one thing to be learned from this, its that good customer service really does make a difference.
I will post another review after I go back to Shoki II with my husband so stay tuned!!
