My New Hobby
I’ve been meaning to write about my new hobby of growing succulents. Awhile back a friend gave me a few tubs of succulents. I immediately fell in love with them.
Succulents are very easy to care for, even for an accident-prone woman like me. It’s not a complicated hobby or a stressful one. Actually, I find tending to succulents very soothing.
The process of regrowing succulents is fairly simple. I’ll do my best to lay out out the steps.
1. Remove the plantlets, or offsets, that have sprung up alongside the mother plant or uproot the entire plant and gently tease the roots apart or twist one leaf cleanly off a stem. Replant whatever you just removed or twisted off in dirt.
2. Wait 1 day so it dries out a bit. Then water it. Make sure you don’t over water it. Continue to water about once a week.
You really don’t need to to drown your succulents. You can keep them in individual pots or put them together in a big pot. Feel free to get creative as you design your succulent landscape.
This is a wonderful activity to do with your kids as well. My 6 year old Roxy loves helping me replant my succulents. I let her help to pick out leaves to regrow or to actually do some of the transplanting. Happy succulent planting!
