Update: 3 Months & Good Times
Carissa is now 3 months old! She is doing amazingly well. I think of how small she was before and I’m just grateful that she’s eating. She didn’t gain a lot over the course of the past month but she still has these cute little rolls of fat on her. She’s at 11.5 lbs now and is starting to observe the world around her. She has been smiling more and I’m pretty sure she knows the sound of my voice and Kenny’s.
Carissa went in the pool for the first time recently. We have an awesome solar heated pool. So even if the weather is 60s outside we can get the pool to like 90 something degrees. She seemed to enjoy the water and just seemed to take it all in. I try not to take her in if it’s cold outside though. When Kenny gets home from work some days we love just climbing into the pool and relaxing for a bit.
We are starting something called “Pool Fridays” at our house. What this means is that we invite our close friends, our “crew” to come swim on Fridays when the weather is nice. We have our housekeeper make some kick ass food and our close friends just come over and swim and hang out. It’s an open invite to our close friends. We have some regulars who show up for pool night. Kenny and I love to utilize the beer kegerator I bought him for Christmas. We take beer out to the pool in plastic cups. I don’t drink a lot but I found out that beer actually helps with milk production. It has something to do with brewer’s yeast.
In addition to Carissa turning 3 months, we have had some joyful events lately. We had a Red Egg & Ginger Party for Carissa. This is a traditional Chinese party held after the birth of a Chinese child. In China this is usually done one month after the birth. Here in the United States, because few women would want to hold a party one month after child birth, it is usually done 3 months after the child’s birth or 100 days. As usual, my friend Daisy of Daisy M. Productions helped me to plan the party. I’d say it was pretty epic. We had a bounce house, a face painter, a photo booth, and a donut bar from Sweet Dozen bakery. The photos from the photo booth were a riot. I’ve posted some of them for your amusement.
We also celebrated Mother’s Day with my family and it was special because it was our first Mother’s Day with Carissa. We ate at Ravenous for brunch and simply spent the day with my family. My parents love to dote on both of our daughters. I have to watch that they don’t get spoiled too much by them. I’m so thankful for my Mom, my 2 grandmothers (I don’t see them often but I’m grateful for them and grateful they are still alive), my godmother Patricia, my mother-in-law who treats me as a daughter, and my 2 baby girls that made me a Mommy.
I spent a part of Mother’s Day thinking about Roxy’s birth Mom. I feel bad for her that I get to enjoy days like Mother’s Day with Roxy and she doesn’t. I pray that somehow that she knows that Roxy is safe, healthy, and loved. I pray for her everyday. I am so thankful that she chose to give Roxy life and that she loved her enough to know what was best for her.
There was a hilarious incident when I showed up to Roxy’s preschool for a Mother’s Day Tea Party. Roxy dressed me in a hat and a feather boa and we were told to go down this runway they had set up. So we danced down the runway. It was epic! LOL, I didn’t have any warning whatsoever!
I’m content. I’m content just to be living my life surrounded by a supportive network of family and friends. I’m happy that my two daughters are healthy, happy, and growing. Life is too precious to get caught up in stresses and dramas.
I hope that all of you Moms out there had a wonderful Mother’s Day! To all of you that are in the adoption process, just know that I’m praying for you and that you are Moms as well, even if you are still waiting.
XOXO Jax
