I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! We had a great one. It was Roxy’s 1st Thanksgiving. Our family doesn’t do turkey. We never have. This year our family made prime rib and it was yummy. I helped my husband Kenny make his famous mac and cheese, sausage cheese biscuits, and rosemary potatoes. It was a feast to remember. Lol, I had to consume 2 lactaids!
I remember this time last year and I was so full of anxiety. We were worried about getting Travel Approval and trying to mentally prepare ourselves to become parents. I figured out that nobody is ever fully ready to be a parent. You just at some point, either decide to go for it, (or in some cases, have parenthood thrust upon you), and pray to God that you can do your best.
Lately our lives have been a blur of play dates, and Roxy’s classes, meeting up with our good friends, and meeting a few new ones. I can’t believe that it’s December. As I’ve plowed through life in my 30s, I can’t help but think that time has been passing more quickly as I get older. I remember back in 2003 moving back to my hometown of Sacramento, and wondering what the heck I was going to do with my life. I’ve blinked and suddenly, I’m married, with a daughter, have a business, and have developed a solid life in the Sacramento/Elk Grove area.
Things I am Most Thankful For:
1. Kenny and Roxy. They are my rocks. I figured out back when Kenny and I first started dating back in 2007 that this was a man who would walk with me to the ends of the earth and back with me. I often wonder, how I got so lucky as to be given Kenny for a husband. With Roxy, she’s a little feisty lovebug. She loves so freely. Kenny and I were married 4 years before we adopted Roxy and now we can barely remember life without her in it. People often talk about how lucky she is to have us. I think we are the lucky ones.
2. Our good friends. You know who you are and what you mean to us.
3. Bloom faith-based adoptive mom’s group. I found this group right when I needed it the most right before we went to China to adopt Roxy and they have been here for me before, during, and after our adoption of Roxy. Adoptive parenting can be very different from biological parenting and you can feel very isolated. These women lift me up so much and I am blessed and inspired by them. *If you are adopting or are an adoptive Mom living in the Sacramento/Elk Grove area and want to check out our group, please message me privately with Bloom in the subject line and I will be sure to let you know when our next meet up is.”
4. Changes. This has been the year of changes for our family. Not only did we adopt Roxy, but we consciously organized our lives and let go of some things and people that didn’t uplift us. I have no regrets whatsoever about the changes we’ve made. In fact, I feel liberated, and at peace.
5. God. Last but certainly not least. He is the the One who gave me everything that I am thankful for.
I hope you all have a blessed week!
XOXO Jax
