Carissa is 6 months old! I can’t believe that it’s been 6 months. Things are going well with her. She is a happy, chubby baby with a cheerful disposition. I love just holding her as she falls asleep. She’s still being bottle fed breast milk and formula and we have started introducing her first foods. So far she has tried bananas and pears and likes them. Carissa really likes being held all the time and is actually pretty demanding. She likes sitting in her Bumbo chair and has started to roll over. This means that we can’t swaddle her over her arms before. It also means that I can’t just put her on the boppy lounger on the couch because she tries to sit up and jumps off the couch. So if I’m making a bottle for her I need to strap her in her swing, put her in her Bumbo chair, or put her on the Boppy lounger on the floor (so she doesn’t have far to fall).
I’m not going to lie. I’m pretty tired. I’m lucky enough to have help. We have a summer nanny and a part time housekeeper nanny. But Carissa still doesn’t sleep through the night so I wake up to feed her. I’m just trying to enjoy this time with her. A year from now Carissa will be 18 months old and walking and talking. In a way, I really wish she could just stay little.
I know everyone is wondering how Roxy likes being a big sister and I’m happy to report that she’s a wonderful sister to Carissa. I taught Roxy to sing “You Are My Sunshine” and she likes to sit holding Carissa or right next to her and sing. Watching Roxy sing to Carissa is one of the greatest joys I’ve ever had in my life. It’s during moments like that where I get to reflect on where I am with life. I have a few degrees, own my own business, and have a blog, but I will say that my daughters are my greatest accomplishment in my life so far.
I hope that you’re all doing well. I’ve received many emails from women in the process of adoption and women who are trying to conceive as well. I’ve been there. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. May all of you and your families be blessed!
XOXO Jax
