“Mama, I eat pozole with chopsticks!” Roxy has no idea why but I credit my Mexican god family for moments like this.
Happy 3rd Birthday Roxy! We can’t believe how big you are and how much you have grown. Baba and I are so proud of who you are and who you are becoming. We love being your parents and we love you with all of our hearts.
Roxy is 3! I can’t believe it! I know everyone says that kids grow up quickly. But I didn’t expect Roxy to grow this quickly. (How many other 3 year olds do you know that have grown more than 4 inches in 1 year?!) I just wish Roxy could stay small forever. When we first brought Roxy home she was still very babylike in her words and actions and even in her size. But I look at Roxy now and I see a feisty little girl. She’s so happy, and so affectionate. In some ways she is typical of most girls her age. She loves Frozen, My Little Ponies, and Hello Kitty. Her favorite color is pink. She likes to dance around our house. Her favorite hobbies are coloring, painting, playing with musical toys, and riding her tricycle.
We had a very small birthday party for Roxy with mostly family and a few close friends. I tried really hard to think of a theme that wasn’t Frozen but there were just so many good ideas for a Frozen party that I capitulated. We rented a bounce house for the kids. But one of Roxy’s presents also turned out to be a huge hit. We got Roxy this Extreme Coaster. It’s basically a little cart that the kids ride down these plastic tracks. The weight limit is pretty low, but being petite, let’s just say I fit under the weight limit. I was also the only adult at the party to ride the Extreme Coaster. YOLO!
Roxy was scared and timid when we first adopted her. You could see her fear in our videos. But today, she is a secure little girl, surrounded by a loving community of family and friends. She is extroverted and will happily chat with her friends at school or anybody who happens to be around. But I’m proud of her too for many reasons. Her English has improved so much and she is so verbal now. I can count on Roxy to tell me how she is feeling or what she wants, even if she doesn’t really know what words to say. “Mama, no fun gow! (sleep in Cantonese) Ice cream?” Roxy has taken to her ABCs with a vengeance and can now count to 20. But I think I’m most proud of the fact that Roxy has a heart for others. I am continually amazed by her selfless acts and her empathy. I’ve seen her approach a crying child, and make sincere efforts to cheer them up. She is very in tune with the needs of others (believe me, she knows to hand Mama a Ginger Elizabeth chocolate bar if Mama is having a rough day=).
Roxy, I hope you had a good birthday sweetheart! Never forget how much Baba and I love you! I can’t wait to see what you will do each day or who you will become.
And to the rest of you, thank you from the bottom of my heart for lifting up our family and especially our daughter Roxy.
