Update: Maui 2015
I’ve been meaning to post pictures from our trip to Maui in March. Let me start by saying that me and Kenny tend to like tropical vacations. I like sleeping in while on vacation, waking up and not having a set agenda, moseying to the beach or the pool, and relaxing in the sun with your loved ones with a drink in your hand. We’ve been to Maui a few times before, the most recent trip being in May 2013 for the wedding of a good friend. Maui is our happy place and we have desperately been in need of a vacation.
We decided to vacation with our good friends Simon and Daisy and their two girls. You know you’re good friends with someone when you can go on vacation with them and have there be NO DRAMA WHATSOEVER. We love these guys and honestly, I’m really not quite sure what we’d do without them.
We rented a condo in Ka’anapali and it was awesome. We were close to Lahaina and near everything. Some people prefer Wailea but we like Lahaina, primarily because there are more things to do. We had a blast just going to the beach, teaching our girls to swim and float, eating great food, and hanging out. There are so many wonderful things that happened on this trip. Some of the highlights included:
-Teaching Roxy to float and swim
-Watching our friend’s daughter lose her fear of the water
-Snorkeling on the beach
-Swimming in the pool at some high end resorts (Note: If you want to know which resorts are safe to just walk in, shoot me a message and I’ll fill you in.)
-Eating at Mama’s Fish House
-Going to the Old Lahaina Luau and watching Roxy get up and dance when the hula dancers performed
-Eating Ululani’s Shave Ice
-Eating the ahi poke from the Fish Market
-Nightly antics at the condo
-Making homemade pina coladas and spiked root beer floats
Some tips I have for Maui:
-Rent snorkel equipment at Boss Frog’s. It’s worth it to rent the high end equipment.
-Buy sunblock and sunblock spray that is at least 100 spf. 30 spf sunblock is absolutely useless in Hawaii.
-Book your accommodations early because people vacation in Maui year round.
-Make reservations for Mama’s Fish House and for the Old Lahaina Luau the minute you buy your tickets for Maui. Both fill up fast.
-Make sure to buy floaties for your kids. You’ll be glad you did if they age 6 or under.
-Bring a sweater, just in case
-Don’t overpack your clothes. I honestly usually wear board shorts and a tee shirt most days. I didn’t wear half the clothes I brought.
Every single time I leave Maui, I always vow to return again soon. I feel exhilarated in Maui. I know it’s because it gives me a break from the daily grind. I like going to Maui with my family and good friends and doing things that I don’t usually get to do in my everyday life. There is something about swimming in the ocean that makes you feel wonderfully alive. And like any other post about Maui, this post isn’t really about Maui. It’s about sunlight. It’s about the way that the sunlight spreads out over the ocean and how you know you and your loved ones will swim through and face your fears. Its about people in your life who lift you up. Its about knowing who you love and who you are loved by and being able to set yourself free. I’ve finally done that. I’ve been able to set myself free.
I send you all love and light.
XOXO Jax
