I finally have my medical grade back brace! I have been in A LOT of pain but had to wait until my medical insurance approved this back brace.
As you all know, I’m pretty small. So there were a few bumps to getting my back brace. My insurance had to approve it. Also, the first back brace I got shown was for the wrong medical issue. I need a back brace that offers significant support since I am recovering from a compression fracture in my spine. Props to Larry, Judy, and Ashley from Hanger Clinic on Timberlake Drive for making sure that I didn’t leave their office without the back brace I so desperately needed.
The Good
The good part of this back brace is that it offers a significant amount of support. It really does help me go about my daily activities better. I am in less pain on a daily basis now that I have this back brace. It’s not hard to put on. It goes on quite easily over my clothes.
The Bad
The bad part is that, sometimes I feel a little caged in when I wear my back brace. It makes me feel self conscious as a I walk around in it. I feel like I get a lot of curious looks when I walk into a place. It also doesn’t completely eliminate my pain.
Coping With Pain
I’ve been coping with pain by taking meds and using Tiger Balm and a topical ointment my physician prescribed me. I take Percocet for pain and Celixib to reduce inflammation. Although technically I can drive, I don’t drive when I take Percocet, since Percocet makes me a bit sleepy.
Reality
My reality is that it will likely take me a few more months at least to get back to normal. Honestly, I really should be spending most of my time resting. However, this isn’t realistic as a I have my kids and family to take care of, my writing to do, and things that need to get done no matter what. I don’t like not being able to do everything I normally do. I like to get out and see people and live my life. But when I choose to go out, I often wind up exacerbating my back. So healing is a slow process for me. Hence, I really just need to strike a balance between going through my life, and resting so that my spine bone can heal. Obviously, my health isn’t optimal right now.
Prayer Request
I am requesting prayer for me to be able to get the rest I need to heal as soon as possible. Also, I need to be reminded that this pain I am experiencing is temporary. Although some permanent health issues are present, the back pain will eventually go away. Thank you all for your love, prayers, and support.
Blessings, Jax
