I had a perfect long weekend, and an awesome Valentine’s Day and birthday! We were supposed to go up to Kirkwood for the weekend with some friends. But one of our friends got sick and we changed our plans. I woke up on Valentine’s Day to Kenny presenting me breakfast in bed. Now my husband is wonderful, but since Roxy, we just don’t cook as much, so his making me breakfast was really special. I also got a dozen roses and my favorite Ginger Elizabeth chocolate. Kenny got some homemade (not by me) almond roca, some Aveda men’s shampoo and conditioner, and a gift certificate for a massage from Images.
Believe it or not, we actually winded up a Track 7 Brewing Company just sampling beer. We had never been there before and wanted to check it out. We also gave Roxy a brand new Schwinn tricycle. Technically, it’s an early birthday present. She loves it! She needs help steering but she definitely got the hang of pedaling so that was exciting.
We went out with some friends and family on Valentine’s Day to Palermo’s for dinner. After stuffing our faces with yummy food, I got to indulge in the Ginger Elizabeth Gianduja cake. Kenny knows this is my favorite cake so he specially reserved it for me this year. Then we also had dinner with my parent’s at Ruth Chris on Sunday. I am pretty partial to Morton’s but had a pretty good ribeye at Ruth Chris.
Kenny hardly ever has days off. So it was exciting for him to have President’s Day off. We decided to take Roxy to Funderland with some friends. It’s basically a children’s amusement park with child sized rides. She’s been to Funderland before but she’s a lot taller now! So she went on a lot of the rides, even the roller coaster! Roxy had NO FEAR! She raised her arms and didn’t even bother holding on. I was afraid Roxy would fall out and I kept pulling her towards me. We actually bought season passes so I’m sure we’ll be back.
On my actual birthday, Roxy and I met up with some friends at the park for a play date. It was a lot of fun and I was really happy that a lot of my friends were able to come. My friend got me a cake and Kenny showed up at the park on his lunch break with flowers, cake pops, and Jamba Juice! Later, Kenny grabbed me and informed me that we were going on a date night WITHOUT ROXY! Poor Roxy cried when she was left with Gung Gung (my Dad). But she soon quieted down when she was promised ice cream. Along the way, Kenny handed me a smoothie spiked with alcohol and told me to have a sip so I could relax. I realized he was driving towards Arden and had no idea what he was doing! He finally stopped at Mellow Me Out Spa and told me that we were having a couples massage. In the beginning they had us in robes with warm lavender neck wraps while our feet soaked. Then our feet were dipped in paraffin wax and wrapped. I could see from Kenny’s expression that he had never had a paraffin wax treatment before and it was priceless! He looked confused when his feet were wrapped up until I explained that it’s supposed to soften the skin on your feet. The massage itself was heavenly. I almost fell asleep because I was so relaxed. Then after the couples massage we headed to dinner at Morton’s. It’s not a secret, my favorite steak is Morton’s ribeye (although the prime rib from House of Prime Rib is a close 2nd). We ordered Cajun blackened ribeye and a lobster tail each, crab cakes, au gratin potatoes, and a lemon souffle for dessert.
I bought a cute dress for Roxy in HK so of course she had to wear it for Chinese New Year. My little girl is so funny. She starts shouting “Cheese!” as soon as she sees me take my phone out. We are having an awesome Chinese New Year with friends and family. I’m actually taking chow mein and lycees to Roxy’s class for Chinese New Year.
Being halfway through my 30s is interesting. I feel like life is passing by quickly. (Good grief, Roxy is more than 4 inches taller than she was at this time last year!) I also feel that Kenny and I have evolved. It makes sense. After all, we did transition from being without kids to having Roxy. But I also feel that our line of thinking isn’t quite the same as it used to be. Some of the things we used to value don’t seem so important now. More than anything, I am grateful that as our family has grown and changed within this past year, that we have a solid community of family and friends behind us. I’ll give credit for that to God, since I thank God every day for the people in my life.
I have had wonderful couple of days, a wonderful Valentine’s Day, President’s Day, birthday, and Chinese New Year surrounded by my family and friends. I feel very blessed to have you all in my life. Thank you for lifting me and my family up.
XOXO Jax
