Car Incident in Midtown

I should have been working from home. Normally on furlough Fridays I work from home. My employer is a non-profit but I work in a state building. On this particular Friday we were instructed not to stay home but to go to work. So I reluctantly went to work.
Around lunch time I went outside and stood for awhile by the side of my work building talking on my cell phone. I walked across the street to 17th and Capitol. I heard the screeching of tires and turned to see a green truck barreling down Capitol followed by a white truck. The green truck made a left onto 17th from Capitol, ran over 2 parking meters, and smashed into a dark grey Prius. The Prius smashed into a red car that hit another truck parked in front of it. I stared open-mouthed as the green truck raced down the street followed by the white truck down the street. The guy in the green truck clearly didn’t care what damage he was causing and it looked like he was committing some sort of crime. I correctly suspected right away that the green truck was stolen. I tried to get a license plate but wasn’t fast enough. I called 911 and told the operator what was going on. Afterwards, the guy in the green truck crashed it into Capitol Manor Apartments, the very building where I rent a space to park my car at. Two apartment residents jumped on the suspect as he tried to get away on foot. They held him until police arrived.
It was one of those very surreal experiences that makes you feel like you’re in a movie. I felt pretty bad for my co-worker who was understandably upset at having her car totaled through no fault of her own. I helped her reach into her car and retrieve her possessions. I then waited around for about 2 hours until the police took my statement. KCRA 3 tried to interview me. I brushed them off and ignored them. I think they got a shot on camera of me putting up my hand.It was quite a Friday and I was quite ready to go home at 5pm. I also resolved never to park my car by the building again.
