Update: Roxy’s 1st Halloween & 1st Trip to Apple Hill

I can’t believe the Summer is gone! Fall weather came in within the past 2 weeks and I personally am loving the colorful changing of leaves and the slightly cool but comfortable weather. We celebrated Roxy’s 1st Halloween here. So I realized that every other girl in America would have the Elsa from Frozen costume but I couldn’t not get it for Roxy because she really loves Frozen. Roxy even sings the song “Let It Go” without being prompted. It sounds something like, “Leggoooo, leggoooo,” but it’s cute nonetheless. We went trick or treating around my parent’s neighborhood (read-gated community and upper middle class means better candy, more candy, and safer.) Then we met up with some friends for the First Baptist Harvest Festival. They really do a good job with this fall festival for the kids. This year all the games and food were inside so nobody got cold or wet (it was a bit rainy). Also, I believe Roxy got more candy spending an hour and a half going to the games booths at the Harvest Festival, than she ever would trick or treating. Seriously, First Baptist is a mega church so they went all out on the Harvest Festival. We are planning to make this an annual Halloween event.
The very next day we went off to Apple Hill and visited High Hill Ranch. Kenny and I went last year and loved it. The food is actually good there. I love the rotisserie chicken. You can buy a bunch of apples and apple goods. Plus, they have pony rides and fishing for the kids. Finally, they have a ton of great vendor booths. So we went with my parents, my cousin and her husband, and some friends. I think everyone had a good time. Since Apple Hill (so called because of the dozens of apple farms and orchards) is only about 50 minutes from Sacramento, it’s the perfect day trip, even if you have kids. Roxy loved the pony ride and we all had a good time just walking around. I may or may not have over indulged in apple pie, candy apples, and apple cider. I also may or may not have gone overboard with purchasing handmade bows and hair clips for Roxy.
The arrival of Fall has brought about a lot of good things to our family. Roxy is going to preschool this month. I will update you guys more on this after she settles. Roxy has transitioned to 3T clothing. I think she had a growth spurt recently because sometime in October, everything 2T just didn’t fit. My little girl is an eater and she’s not picky at all. She loves meat (totally fits in with our family-we’re such carnivores), loves chips, salty snacks, candy, ice cream, and Jamba Juice. I feed her a lot of fresh fruit and I’m happy to report that she has no problem with vegetables. She likes kale and corn a lot.
Kenny and I have decided to take a break from a few of our usual things to allow us to focus on our family. In a way, we feel slightly liberated, since we had so many previous commitments that we stressed out about keeping. But I think change is a natural part of the process as we continue to make adjustments, mostly catering to what is best for Roxy, Kenny, and myself. This has also allowed us more time together as a family and more time to spend with my family. It is such a joy to watch Roxy play with my parents and sister. They get such a kick out of her.
