Roxy has totally been surprising us with her questions lately. We have had some interesting conversations that I really wasn’t expecting to have until she was older. However, Kenny and I believe that honesty is always the best policy so we have tried our best to answer her questions. I am posting 2 separate conversations just for your amusement.

Roxy: Mama, how did the baby get in your tummy?
Me: Uh, God and Baba helped put it there.
Roxy: Baba, how?
Kenny: Um……
Me and Kenny: Bath time Roxy!!
Roxy: (Put her hands on her hips and gave us an exasperated look)

Roxy: Mama, so how did Baba put baby in your tummy?
Me: With God’s help, Baba planted a seed.
Roxy: Like the bean?
Me: Yes, like the bean sprout.
Roxy: I’m the baby. Why you no go to China for baby?
Me: Roxy, babies grow in mommies tummies. You did too. Your birth mommy grew you in her tummy. But your China mommy couldn’t care for you. So Baba and I went to China and we became your Mama and Baba.
Roxy: I adopted in China.
Me: That’s right and we love you just as much as if you grew in Mama’s tummy.
Roxy: Ok. Will I still be Baba Mama’s baby?
Me: You will have a new baby sibling but you will always be our baby.
Roxy then asked me to “popo” her (hold her). I hope I said the right things. Roxy will need to come to terms with her adoption later in her life. As Roxy gets older Kenny and I have resolved to try to answer her questions and to help Roxy come to terms with her adoption with the same openness and honesty that we tried to show here. I never want Roxy to ever doubt how much we love her or feel that she is worth less because she is adopted. She will grow up knowing that she is loved, cherished, and valued that we equally love all our children.
