I’ve always liked Ella ever since it opened. My husband and I went here recently and were not disappointed.
We had the wood oven meatballs, the seared sea scallops, the ricotta gnocchi, and the confit of Sonoma duck. The wood oven meatballs were served with roasted tomato sauce and sheep’s milk ricotta. They were very meaty and tasty. I would definitely order them again. The seared sea scallops were served with caponata, pancetta, creamy polenta, and balsamic viniagrette. The scallops were almost creamy and the sauce was rich and flavorful. The pancetta was actually more like bacon to me and my husband but it made the perfect compliment to the scallops. We were a bit disappointed that there were just 2 scallops however. The ricotta gnocchi was served with tomato coulis, burrata cream, cherry tomatoes, and parmesan. The taste was good but the gnocchi was little softer than I wanted. I would have preferred good, chewy gnocchi. But I’m not honestly sure if ricotta gnocchi is supposed to be softer than regular gnocchi. My husband and I loved the duck confit served with summer beans, escarole, bacon, and garlic viniagrette. The duck was absolutely fabulous. I would rate it as the 2nd best duck confit I have ever had. The beans were almost creamy and the bacon was crispy.
The ambiance at Ella is pretty good. The customer service is pretty decent. We have always been a little puzzled by the old shutters that are on the ceiling of part of the restaurant but that’s just a minor comment about the decor.
Overall, we were pretty pleased with the meal. This last time we went we were actually so full that we had no room for dessert. I’ve had their desserts before here though and I generally like the sorbets and the apple pie a la mode. I would definitely rate Ella as one of the best restaurants in Sacramento.
