Tasty Pot – Elk Grove, CA – Taiwanese Hot Pot

Checking Out Tasty Pot
I was stoked to find out that Tasty Pot just opened in Elk Grove. It’s a Taiwanese Hot Pot chain known for their tasty individual hot pots and their popular boba drinks.
I’m used to Hong Kong style hot pot. What does that mean? Well, my family is from Hong Kong. With Hong Kong hot pot, there are usually one or two big pots of soup for the whole table. In Hong Kong, the food is often still alive and wriggling on the table before you dunk it in the soup. I think this was my first time having an individual hot pot myself.
My family and some friends got to Tasty Pot and we waited awhile to get seated. They have a handy display screen so you can see exactly where you are in line, with your name, and number in your party.
The menu is interesting. They have a dozen different Hot Soups you can choose. I asked our waitress Rosalyn which soups were the most popular. She said that most popular soups were Taiwanese Supreme Spicy Hot Soup, Japanese Miso Hot Soup, Lamb Hot Soup, and Thai Flavor Hot Soup. I was confused by the existence of Japanese Miso Hot Soup at a Taiwanese Hot Pot Chain. However, I’m really into miso ramen.
The Food & Drinks
I decided to order the Japanese Miso Hot Soup. My husband ordered the Taiwanese Supreme Spicy Hot Soup. Our friends ordered the Lamb Hot Soup, the Taiwanese Supreme Spicy Hot Soup, and the Japanese Miso Hot Soup. You could specify how spicy you wanted your soup. I got Mild because I was sharing with my daughters while my husband Kenny got Medium. We also ordered extra portions of udon, extra corn, quail eggs, extra eggs, and for me, an extra bowl of minced green onion. I love green onion and especially like throwing it in hot soup.

When our food came it was bubbling hot. I did not dare touch the inside of the hot pot contraption as I was warned not to. The hot pot actually has a mechanism which keeps it hot. During my meal, it extinguished once and I asked for and got them to re-light it again.
I did like the taste of the Japanese Miso Hot Soup but I will say the soup doesn’t really have a rich flavor. It’s more of a lighter tasting soup. I enhanced my soup with several generous handfuls of my extra green onion. It was tasty, satisfying, and filling. I did note that the udon wasn’t really enough for me. They serve your hot soup with rice or vermicelli. I ate mine with vermicelli and the udon it came with. However, it was absolutely necessary for me to get 2 extra rounds udon to eat with my soup.
I had a bit of Kenny’s Taiwanese Supreme Spicy Hot Soup and I liked it as well. I’d totally consider getting the Taiwanese Supreme Spicy Hot Soup if it was just me eating the soup. But I was sharing my meal with my daughters Roxy and Carissa. So Japanese Miso Hot Soup was a very good choice. Our friends liked their Taiwanese Supreme Spicy Hot Soup, their Japanese Miso Hot Soup, and their Lamb Hot Soup. They said the lamb meat was tender.
Mango Green Tea with lychee jelly & Hokkaido Milk Tea with boba
We also ordered two drinks. We got a Mango Green Tea with lychee jelly and a Hokkaido Milk Tea with boba. The drinks were fine. I preferred the Mango Green Tea. However, I tend to like fruity teas. The cups the drinks were in were neat. There is a funny red heart-shaped piece of plastic. You could use this red piece to stop up the drinking hole or you could remove it and place it in another hole in the lid. So you had a choice of drinking through the hole or drinking through a normal boba straw.
The Customer Service
The customer service was reasonably good considering how jam packed Tasty Pot was. They were having their Grand Opening. It is a PACKED restaurant (I went on a Sunday night). There was a line out the door and a lot of people waiting around for a table. Our waitress Rosalyn was pretty on it. The manager Andy came by to say hello. He took the time to make sure that all was well and I was impressed by that. I think that Tasty Pot has a few things to work on in terms of efficiency, but overall they are doing a good job of trying to help out customers in a timely fashion.
Overall
In conclusion, I whole-heartedly recommend you check out Tasty Pot. Take a chance, even if you’ve never had individual hot pot before. The food is tasty, the boba drinks are solid, the atmosphere is lively, and the customer service is on point when you consider that it’s their Grand Opening. Try the Taiwanese Supreme Spicy Hot Soup and the Japanese Miso Hot Soup. Don’t forget to order some extra udon. JAXAPPROVED!
