The day before my birthday, my husband Kenny took me out on a special date day. We had lunch at Mulvaney’s which is one of my favorite restaurants in Sacramento.
Mulvaney’s is known for their upscale and delicious food that often features fresh produce and meats from local farms. It’s a part of that whole “farm to fork” trend in Sacramento. In addition, people know Mulvaney’s for spectacular customer service and personal touches. We were given custom printed menus with “Happy Birthday Jacqueline” printed on them.
Kenny let me pick everything we ordered since it was my birthday. We ordered Foie Gras, Rabbit Tortellini, and Smoked Passmore Ranch Sturgeon on Castelfranco & Red Romaine. The Foie Gras isn’t usually on the lunch menu. However, we made a special request to have it served to us since we love it when we have it for dinner. The Foie Gras came served with a delicious strawberry chutney and grilled toast. It was so decadent and delicious that I found myself wiping the plate with the bread just to get any last bit. Our server Sarah offered us a Foie Gras pairing with wine. Honestly, I forgot to get the name of the wine. But it was good. I’d say if they offer a wine pairing and you like wine just go for it.
The Rabbit Tortellini is exquisite. Rabbit is not a protein that I eat on a regular basis. But I decided to try it because it just sounded awesome. The Rabbit Tortellini is comes with carrots, turnips, green garlic, and parmesan. They even divided it into two portions for us. You could tell they made the tortellini themselves. Mulvaney’s never uses store bought pasta. The Rabbit Tortellini wasn’t heavy. It was just the right amount. The carrots and turnips and garlic and parmesan really made it all taste very fresh. I would say this was my favorite entree.
The Smoked Passmore Ranch Sturgeon on Castelfranco & Red Romaine was essentially a fancy salad with smoked sturgeon on top of it. It was served with beets, blood orange, and honey champagne vinaigrette. Again, everything at Mulvaney’s is very fresh. Also their smoked sturgeon is delicious. The Castelfranco and red romaine with all the beets and blood orange brought a sense of refreshment to my palate. Nothing I ate was heavy or overly greasy or filling.
Consequently, Kenny and I were quite full so we didn’t order from the dessert menu. However, our server Sarah surprised us with homemade rice krispy treats drizzled with chocolate. It was the perfect end to my birthday lunch.
In short, at Mulvaney’s the food is upscale, delicious, and farm fresh. The atmosphere is intimate and inviting. The customer service is spot on with awesome personal touches everywhere. I have no reservations whatsoever about recommending Mulvaney’s. This is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Sacramento. Actually, it’s one of my favorite restaurants period. JAX APPROVED!!
