As an Elk Grove blogger and Sacramento Blogger, it’s always interesting for me to chronicle my own family. I, Jacqueline Cheung, am getting older. Suddenly, just like that, Roxy is 6 and Carissa is 2!!
Carissa Is 2
First of all, Carissa is now a 2 year old toddler and all over the place. She’s into EVERYTHING! She’s a happy little girl and never more happy than when watching Masha and the Bear on the iPad. Her favorite foods are Chicken Congee aka Gai Jook. (Check out my recipe for Chicken Congee here: https://www.jaxchronicles.org/instant-pot-chicken-congee-gai-jook/). She’s quite verbal and some of the words she says are: Mommy, Daddy, nai nai (milk), more, no, I love you, want some, I don’t like it, I like it, help me, get down, fish (goldfish crackers), Masha, auntie, Popo, Gung Gung, and give me. She’s a ball of energy. Seriously, she needs less sleep than Roxy. She’s VERY INDEPENDENT for 2.
Roxy Is 6
Roxy is now 6 and in 1st grade. She’s having a ball reading and learning to write. She’s very into Frozen, My Little Pony, and most recently, Coco. She likes anything pink, purple, or sparkly. She really needs a lot of sleep or she gets very grumpy. She’s very feisty. I’m always scratching my head because she throws my own words and login back to me. It’s still kind of cute now. However, I know I’m really going to have a hard time when she gets into puberty. Roxy has lots of friends both at school and outside of school. She takes 2 hip hop dance classes from Rize All and loves them. I’d say both my daughters are happy and firmly entrenched in our community of family and friends.

Birthday Party
We had a joint birthday party for Roxy and Carissa on March 3rd. It was a My Little Pony themed party and well executed by my friend and event planner Daisy Magsuci of Daisy M Productions. I promised Roxy pony rides only to discover that they wouldn’t let us book because it was supposed to rain. Thankfully, it didn’t rain much, and we were able to have a successful party inside. The kids enjoyed making window catchers, watching the magic show, and playing with some toys I had purchased. On a whim, I purchased 2 pogo balls, 2 foam jumpers, and 1 pogo stick. Fortunately, they were a hit. Roxy is still bouncing all over the house with them. We had a wonderful party with family and friends, despite the threat of rain.

Roxy’s Actual Birthday
Roxy’s actual birthday had some hiccups in it. I’m thankful we have friends who made it better. Kenny and I kept Roxy out of school for her birthday and tried to take her to go see Coco. Unfortunately, the movie had technical difficulties. There was nothing we could do as this was the only theater in Sacramento showing it. Roxy winded up sobbing in her princess dress. We marched her into Icing and let her pick out any accessories she wanted. Also, we had my Dad and some friends meet us at Wasabi Grill for teppanyaki. This seemed to cheer Roxy up.

We decided to let Roxy do over her birthday. I wrestled with the idea of keeping Roxy out of school more. But I needed to make sure my daughter had a good memory of her birthday. So we kept her out of school the next day and invited friends to come watch Coco on pay-per-view. We had snacks for the kids, and Roxy had at fun day at home. We ordered from Fish & Things Poke Bar (Roxy’s choice) and Roxy was perfectly happy. Thanks to the Newell family for helping to celebrate Roxy’s birthday! I also brought some treats to Roxy’s school the next day.

Haircuts
After the birthday celebrations were over, we have still been quite busy. I usually trim the girls bangs but I realized that Carissa’s hair needed an actual cut. Since Roxy’s hair was also long, I decided to take the girls to get their hair cut. We cut 2 inches from Carissa’s hair and 4 inches from Roxy’s hair. Carissa wouldn’t sit still. Luckily, I had my iPad and I was able to distract her enough so that she could get her hair cut.

Spring Will Be Here Soon
So now it’s March and this year is whipping by. Soon it will be Spring Break and before I know it, the Summer will be here. Roxy is already asking when she can go swimming.
Sometimes I wish I could slow the passage of time. I feel like as I get older that time seems to pass by more quickly. All I know is that my girls are happy, healthy, and growing like weeds. As a mother, I can’t really ask for anything more.
