Kenny and I recently celebrated our 10th Wedding Anniversary. I can’t believe it’s been 10 years. I feel we have evolved greatly as a couple and as a family. I’m content to be, to live my life with Kenny, Roxy, and Carissa. And though I live a freaking crazy life, I can honestly say I’m happy with it, with Kenny, and with the family and friends surrounding us. I love you Kenny! Happy 10th Anniversary honey!
What I Love About Kenny
After 10 years, I am still elated to be married to Kenny. It’s not just that we are married. He understands my soul. He understands that while I’m an extrovert I often need a lot of time to recharge my batteries after group gatherings. He knows that when I’m upset, I hate being asked questions and love noodles, soup, and dumplings. He still knows how to make me laugh. I love spending time actually with Kenny even if we are just watching tv with the girls. I love that he likes bbqing and throwing parties just as much as I do. I can communicate something to him if he’s across the room simply using my eyes. He will know how I am feeling, usually before I have said a single word. I love the way he is a good Daddy to Roxy and Carissa and will sit and have tea parties with them or read them as many stories as they want. I love that we balance each other out. My hubby is really into science and sports. I’m into writing, history, and I’m definitely not athletic. We both like craft beers and he knows I love drinking Angry Orchard. In fact we have a kegerator at home usually with one tap local craft brew and one tap Angry Orchard. I love that Kenny is supportive of what I do for a living, even if I don’t work a regular office job, just because he wants me to follow my passions and be happy. I love how when he holds me, I still feel complete.
The Party
We talked about going away for our anniversary. But then we just decided to throw a bbq pool party in our backyard with a few family and friends and plenty of good food. It was an awesome time of kicking back with family and good friends which was just what we wanted.
My friend Kim Huynh has a company called Artista Productions. She helped me to plan our party and really, outdid herself. I don’t think my backyard has ever looked so fancy!
We served tri tip, crab, grilled oysters, shrimp, homemade tamales from Toro’s Tamales, musubi fried rice and kim chee fried rice from Mixed Noodle Bar, and garlic noodles from Journey To The Dumpling. Fortunately we have good friends who own restaurants and they helped to supply us with some yummy food.
I think my favorite part of our anniversary party was just getting to sit down and stuff our faces with the people we love the most. We killed 60 oysters, 6 crabs, and at least 2 tri tips!
Our Actual Anniversary
On our actual anniversary Kenny let me pick where to go to dinner. I decided to go to this little Italian place in Greenhaven called Cacio. It’s where Ravenous used to be.
It was nice to get out with just Kenny. We don’t really have date nights as much as I would like because we’re constantly worrying about Roxy and Carissa and miss them if we spend too much time apart. Plus the girls don’t take to going to bed very well if we aren’t there to tuck them in.
Cacio really has high quality Italian food. You really can’t go wrong with any of their selections but the pasta is out of this world. I personally like the secret menu Buccatini and meatballs and the Orechette with homemade sausage. Kenny likes their signature Cacio E Pepe. We both really like the Stone Fruits Salad. It has tasty heirloom tomatoes that I discovered are actually from my cousin’s farm Yeung Farms Specialty Produce. If you want a light dessert, the Peach Champagne sorbet is the perfect way to end your meal.
I really loved just being able to eat with and spend time with Kenny. Sometimes we are so involved with our girls that I almost forget what it is like just to spend time with the man that I love. We had an awesome time chatting about the food and things we want to do with our family.
Thoughts On Our Anniversary
I feel like time has been flying by. Suddenly I blinked and Kenny and I have been married 10 years and have 2 daughters. I’m reminded of this quote from one of my favorite movies Cloud Atlas.
“Our lives are not our own. From womb to tomb we are bound to others, past and present, and by each crime and every kindness with birth our future.”

No matter what mistakes I have made in my life and despite the challenges thrown into it in the past few years, I know that I am blessed to have married a man like Kenny, who walks by by side and sometimes carries me through. To genuinely feel and know that I have married my best friend and my other half is a heartfelt blessing and it is one that I don’t take for granted. I have Kenny, Roxy, Carissa, and my family and friends beside me. While I’m not rich, I feel blessed in love and in life.
To Kenny
Happy 10th Wedding Anniversary Kenny Cheung! I can’t believe it’s been 10 years since we got married at the Asian Art Museum. 10 years later and we still love the beach, bbqing, and throwing parties. We have 2 beautiful little girls and I wouldn’t trade this life with you for anything! Thank you for always loving me and the girls and lifting us up. As I promised on our wedding day, I give you everything I am, everything I make of my life, and everything I can be. I love you and will always love you with all of my heart, mind, body, and soul.
And I will continue to enthusiastically attend all Stanford games wearing a Stanford shirt, even though I went to UCSD!
