Christmas In Elk Grove
This year for Christmas, our family did something completely unusual and stayed in Elk Grove. Usually we go out of the country to Hong Kong and visit family. However, this year, due to the unsafe and extremely volatile political climate in Hong Kong, we opted to stay in Sac. We did our best to give our girls a great “American Christmas.”
Since I haven’t spent many Christmases in the United States, I am not that familiar with the American tradition of tearing open presents in front of the Christmas tree. I know it sounds strange. But that’s not really how I grew up. I grew up going to Hong Kong for Christmas and our family would always shop and eat out daily. It’s not that I didn’t get presents. But it was more, my parents would take me out and buy me plenty of clothes and knick knacks when we were out in Hong Kong.
Roxy and Carissa were fairly reasonable in their Christmas wishes. So I purchased gigantic packages of LOL Dolls even though I really don’t get the hype. It was a sea of LOL Dolls, purple, pink, glitter, and slime.
Kenny got my some nice gifts. Among my favorites are my Phillips Noodle Maker and this really cool pair of China Lebron China Moons. Kenny says his favorite gift from me was this beer making kit I got him and these Stanford beer glasses.
I had a relaxing, fairly mellow Christmas with my family. It was really what I needed. I hope you all had a Merry Christmas!
New Year’s At Home
For New Year’s Eve, I didn’t feel like going out. So I solved the issue by throwing a little gathering at home with a few close friends. We ate ribeye, my friend made a really yummy cheese and charcuterie board, drank, and played with sparklers outside. It was the perfect, low key celebration. And best of all, I didn’t have to drive anywhere.
Although I seem like I seem to have a lot of friends, I really have a small “tribe” that I spend a lot of time with and count on. I know I am lucky to have this group with me no matter what. I didn’t always have that. I thank God for the good people he has brought to my life.
New Year’s Resolutions
My resolutions for the new year include 1) Learning to say no more often, 2) Trying to eat better, and 3) Spending more quality time with my family and daughters. To explain, I often say yes to doing things or events because I don’t want to disappoint people even if I’m feeling tired or overwhelmed. I need to eat better because my gastrointestinal system has been giving me all kinds of issues. I’m trying to do a low FODMAP diet but it’s difficult for me to cut out lactose, spicy food, carbs and noodles, and alcohol. Finally, I get so caught up in my life that days go by and I feel like I barely see my daughters or husband or have actual conversations or quality time with them. I will keep you all posted on how I do at keeping these resolutions.
I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I wish you all joy, peace, prosperity, good health, and good fortune in 2020!
XOXO Jax
